Segenhoe was settled in 1816 – just 28 years after the first fleet
arrived in Sydney. The original 20,000 acre property included the land
on which the stud is now located. Thoroughbreds have been reared on Segenhoe
since the mid 19th century.
Michael Sissian assumed control of Segenhoe in 1989. The Stud has produced
16 individual Group One winners under Michael’s direction, including
the winners of most feature races on the Australian calendar. See honour
roll.
IN 1998, Michael moved the stud to its present location on the Hunter
River at Scone. The “new” Segenhoe Stud is a specialised broodmare
farm, which was purpose built from the ground up on virgin horse land.
The stud enjoys 5kms of Hunter River frontage. It’s topography,
soil, pastures and improvements are ideally suited to breeding and rearing
thoroughbred horses. Indeed, from small numbers, the “new” Segenhoe
has already produced horses of the calibre of Grand Armee, Virage De Fortune,
Bradbury’s Luck, Murtajill, Maybe Better, El Pauji, Absolutelyfabulous,
Ready As, Sunset Run, Russian Caravan, Regrowth, Dubai Ice, Unzipped and
Red Robert.
Segenhoe is also making significant contributions to the thoroughbred
gene pool. For example we bred the dams of the 1st, 2nd and 4th placegetters
in the 2007 Golden Slipper.
